Game Linguistic QA in-game testing
by native-speaking gaming specialists

Linguistic QA (LQA) is the in-game testing process through which localised content is reviewed and verified within the live game environment by native-speaking testers. Unlike desktop translation review, LQA catches issues that only manifest in context: text that is correctly translated in isolation but is inappropriate, confusing, or truncated within a specific UI element; subtitles that are accurate but misaligned with audio; or character dialogue that contradicts in-game events. LQA is the essential bridge between localisation and launch.

Game Linguistic QA (LQA): In-Game Testing by Native-Speaking Gaming Specialists

What does a gaming LQA tester do?

A gaming LQA tester is a native speaker of the target language who plays through the game in that language, systematically evaluating every piece of localised content against a set of defined quality criteria. They check for translation accuracy, grammatical correctness, stylistic consistency, cultural appropriateness, and display integrity. They document every issue in a structured defect report and often suggest corrections directly.

LQA vs. translation review: what is the difference?

Translation review, also known as proofreading or revision, checks translation quality against the source text, typically using a text editor or CAT tool. LQA checks translation quality within the game itself, where context, display constraints, character voice, and game state can all affect whether a translation is appropriate. Many localisation errors that pass desktop review are only discoverable through in-game LQA.

Our LQA testing methodology

We begin each LQA engagement with a kick-off phase that includes reviewing the game’s style guide and glossary, becoming familiar with the game’s world, characters, and tone, and defining the LQA test plan and issue severity criteria. Testing then proceeds systematically through the game, with daily issue reports submitted to your bug-tracking system and regular status updates to your localisation project manager.

Issue classification and severity levels

Not all LQA issues carry equal weight. We classify issues across a standardised severity hierarchy: Critical (blocks progress or conveys incorrect critical information), Major (significant linguistic error or display failure), Minor (stylistic or minor accuracy issues), and Cosmetic (formatting and consistency issues). This classification allows your team to triage and prioritise fixes efficiently.

LQA for all languages and platforms

We provide LQA services for all major languages across all gaming platforms. Our testing team includes native speakers of European, Asian, Middle Eastern, and Latin American languages, ensuring that every target market receives culturally informed quality assurance from gaming specialists.

Post-fix LQA: verifying corrections

Once your development team has implemented LQA fixes, a post-fix verification pass confirms that issues have been resolved correctly and that fixes have not introduced new errors. We offer structured post-fix LQA as a standard part of our QA service, ensuring that the build you submit to platform holders or ship to players is fully verified.
