Immersive Quality Audit:
testing the experience, not just the text

LQA and FQA are essential, but they are not sufficient for titles where immersion and emotional impact are central to the player experience. The Immersive Quality Audit (IQA) is our proprietary evaluation methodology for assessing the holistic quality of a localised game: whether the translated experience is as engaging, coherent, and emotionally resonant as the source, and whether cultural adaptation has successfully conveyed the development team’s creative intent to the target market.

Immersive Quality Audit: Testing the Experience, Not Just the Text

What is an Immersive Quality Audit?

An IQA is a structured qualitative assessment of a localised game build, conducted by experienced gaming linguists and cultural specialists who evaluate the title from the perspective of a native player in the target market. Unlike LQA, which operates at the level of individual strings and display issues, the IQA assesses macro-level qualities: the coherence of the narrative voice, the cultural appropriateness of adapted content, the consistency of the game’s tone, and the overall feel of the localised experience.

What the Immersive Quality Audit covers

Our IQA methodology covers six dimensions of localisation quality: Narrative Voice (does the game’s storytelling voice translate convincingly?); Cultural Resonance (does adapted cultural content have the intended effect?); Audio-Visual Alignment (do subtitles, audio, and on-screen action cohere?); Terminological Consistency (are key terms used consistently throughout?); Player-Facing Clarity (are all player-facing instructions and UI elements clear and unambiguous?); and Emotional Impact (does the localised game deliver comparable emotional beats to the source?).

Who benefits from an Immersive Quality Audit?

The IQA is particularly valuable for narrative-driven games (RPGs, story adventures, visual novels, and cinematic action games) where immersion is a core commercial differentiator. It is also recommended for games entering markets that differ significantly from the development team’s home culture, and for major titles where review scores in target markets are a key commercial metric.

IQA report and recommendations

The output of an Immersive Quality Audit is a structured report that rates each dimension of localisation quality on a defined scale, identifies specific issues and assigns priority ratings, and provides concrete recommendations for improvement. Where issues are identified, we provide corrected text, alternative approaches, or recommendations for audio re-recording, giving your team a clear remediation pathway.

Combining IQA with LQA and FQA

For the most comprehensive quality assurance coverage, the IQA is best conducted in parallel with or immediately following your LQA and FQA passes. We offer combined QA packages that integrate all three quality dimensions into a single, coordinated testing engagement, with unified reporting and a single point of contact for your team.

IQA for trailers and marketing materials

Immersive quality extends to all player-facing content, including trailers, press assets, and store pages. We offer IQA evaluations for localised marketing content, assessing whether the creative impact of your launch campaign is conveyed effectively in target markets and identifying opportunities to strengthen cultural resonance in your promotional materials.
